WHY A NEW POLITICAL PARTY?

The Alliance has been created for the following reasons among many others:

1. Rwandans had hoped that the RPF, Rwandan Patriotic Front, was going to promote democracy and good governance as it had preached during the 1990-1994 war.  However, hopes quickly faded away.  At first, failures were attributed to the lack of experience coupled with the devastations that our country had suffered during the 1994 genocide and subsequent instabilities.  This hypothesis did not last, as the situation worsened as time went by.  Today, we realize that the causes of the many failures of the current regime are rooted in the incompetence of the true power holders, their lack of vision, their corruption and mostly their violation of human rights.  Within this context, the only alternative left is to seek democratic ways of creating a forum from which change can be channeled.

2. It is our Patriotic and humanistic duty to speak out against the abuses of the current regime in order to come to the rescue of our nation in decadence end our people in distress.  History will not be kind to us if we did nothing.  We have therefore opted to provide our compatriots an alternative capable of lifting our country from the abyss it is in currently.

3. It is our obligation to rekindle hope in Rwandan people and to show them that Rwanda is not doomed to dictatorship that it has so far endured.  The Alliance will provide a forum where the people can speak and be heard.

We call on the international community to help us avoid a repeat of the humanitarian catastrophe that struck our country by lending its support to our efforts to build a democratic and just society in Rwanda.
