DECLARATION 005/ 2002: IMPOSTERS ISSUING DECLARATIONS IN THE NAME OF ARENA

ARENA would like to alert the international community and the Rwandan community in particular, that a communiqué signed by Mr. Augustin Kamongi on May 8, 2002 and made public on May 11, 2002 in the name of our party, is not authentic, and that the information contained in it is false.  We issue this declaration while reviewing our options on what to do about these imposters.  While we take this matter under advisement, the following three parameters can be used to verify the authenticity of ARENA’s communiqués:

1.      All ARENA’s communiqués are sanctioned by the party’s coordination committee (Mr. Gratien Rudakubana and Mr. Alexandre Kimenyi).

2.      They are sent from our official yahoo email address arena_isangano@yahoo.com.

3.      They are posted on our official website http://www.newrwanda.org.

ARENA is denouncing this fabrication by disgruntled individuals who are increasingly frustrated by our steadfast refusal to subscribe to their attempt to wage war in Rwanda.  Having failed to convince Rwandans of their usefulness and contribution in finding a real and lasting solution to the predicaments facing their country, and having put their personal interests above those of the nation, the war advocates have resolved to attempt manipulation in order to confuse Rwandans, hinder the progress that the peaceful opposition is making, and create an atmosphere conducive to bloodshed, which is preferable to their hurried personal agenda.

We strongly condemn those who would so casually endanger the lives of a people that has already endured enormous atrocities and continues to suffer at the hands of a military dictatorship.  We will continue to denounce those who seek to plunge our country into another bloodshed

ARENA reaffirms that it is not a member of the Igihango alliance, as stipulated in its declarations 002/2002 and 003/2002, it reaffirms the suspension of Joseph Kabuye Sebarenzi, Joseph Ngarambe, Deus Kagiraneza, and Gerard Semushi Karangwa, until their fate is decided by our upcoming congress; and that only the coordination has the authority to speak for ARENA.

ARENA will hold its first congress on May 18-19, 2002 as previously scheduled by the coordination in its March 25th 2002 communiqué to the members.  The decisions reached will be announced by the then exiting coordination and will be posted on its official website http://www.newrwanda.org.  Until then, all our communiqués will be issued according to the three parameters specified above.

For ARENA,

The coordination,

Gratien Rudakubana

Alexandre Kimenyi
